Recently I'm seeing stories on the internet about an "EasyCAP" sold as a DC60 which identifies itself as SM-USB 007. One report says that the USB ID is 1c88:0007 (from Somagic, Inc), so it seems not to be a DC60 of the kind we are familiar with.
Does anybody know what the hardware inside this device is? Does it differ from the SAA7113H + STK1160 + AC'97 configuration which we normally associate with the DC60 model?

You have too much time on your hands You should pm some of the people on the forum that have them to see if you can glean the info you need from them. Or, as you can buy it for £4.23 inc delivery it may be cheaper time wise to buy one.

Thanks, afterburner, for the very interesting pictures! Your DC60 Syntek EasyCAP is a good one, with an audio chip clearly visible on the underside of the board. Some DC60s have no audio chip, see: http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/jashi/diary/201004090000/and these give relatively poor sound quality. I'm not sure, but I think the DC60s without sound chip may be 4-CVBS cards recabled as CVBS+S-VIDEO+AUDIO(L)+AUDIO(R). The Somagic EasyCAP seems to be completely different hardware. I cannot read the numbers on the chips, but I assume the larger chip (on the underside of the board) is the video front end (SAA7113H or equivalently a Silan 8113) while the smaller chip (on the topside of the board) is one of Somagic's own USB controllers, possibly with integrated audio processing. Your pictures answer my question: the Somagic EasyCAPs are not another clone of the old DC60: they are something new. For MS-Windows users the implication is that the drivers for the old DC60s probably will not work with Somagic EasyCAPs - they will need Somagic-specific software. Perhaps Ulead Video Studio is not compatible and better results can be obtained with other video editing software (just guessing). Mike

I can find no information on the SMI-2021CBE chip, although the Somagic website does mention a USB controller type SMI-2020CBE. I do not fully understand the specification, but the SMI-2020CBE does not appear to have the ability to digitize analogue audio: http://www.somagic.com.cn/english/product_info.asp?id=60The empty space on the Somagic card seems the wrong shape to accommodate an audio chip of the type used in the DC60s, which is square and has 48 pins (12 on each side): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC%2797#Codec_chipsExamples are the Via VT1612A and the Realtek ALC655. So the audio processing on the Somagic EasyCAPs remains a mystery. Mike

Hi,
Since I tried several setups (everything I could find) for mine (DC60+ .. so it says on the package but not). 1160 Drivers bluescreened on me Comes up as SMI-USB 007 in Device Mgr.
I took mine apart.
It has the Somagic Chip- SM1 2021CBE U8 is not there
Backside: SAA7113H CM6820.00 10 kPO4112
I've tried installing on my Win 7 pc also on an XP. But I don't there's any proper software drivers for this chipset. The SoMagic website has nothing on it.
If anyone has any ideas...please post.

I am having similar issues. I bought an EasyCap DC60+ from DealExtreme.com. It came with a CD that had drivers for an STK1160, but when I try to install the device, it continues to claim that it needs the drivers for an "SM-USB 007" device and refuses to accept the STK1160 driver. Has anyone found a driver for "SM-USB 007" that works with this device. I am using Win XP SP2 as an OS.

Hi,
Can you show me another link to the SM-USB 007 Driver, because the link above is not working anymore.
Thank you.

It won't be of interest to many people, but just to tidy up a loose end in this thread I ought to point out a recent report which says that the audio processing in these Somagic EasyCAPs is provided by a (tiny) Cirrus CS5340 chip: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/SomagicMike

SM-USB 007 belongs to SMI chipset which is not a genuine EasyCap chipset. It doesn't have USB audio chip at all on that chipset and it is planned to use computer's own audio card via USB, but sadly this sytem is uncompatible with many computers and softwares. People have reported to me many times about missing audio problems with SMI chipset when they have bought that product from the other sellers - I am selling only the genuine EasyCap DC60 with the genuine chipset, though I have the latest drivers also for this SMI chipset in my support forum. The latest drivers for EasyCap DC60, EasyCap DC60+, EzCAP108, EzCAP116, EzCAP128, EzCAP148, EzCAP168 and Dazzle devices: http://adf.ly/1310198/capture-card-drivers
